Are you interested in serving refugees and immigrants in Minnesota? We would love to have you volunteer at KOM! Volunteers give their time to support refugees and immigrants as they transition to their new life in Minnesota. They are an important part of increasing KOM’s services.

Current Opportunities

Karen Club After-School Helper

Availability: Open

 

 

 

 

Are you interested in helping with our Karen Club afterschool with middle and high school students? KOM is partnering with 2 Saint Paul Public Schools this 2024-2025 year. We are looking for volunteers to provide homework help for students, help with individual and small group projects, support games and activities, chaperone field trips, and more. Program runs from October – May.

Mock Interview Volunteer

Availability: Open

Volunteers sit at tables with attendees and conduct practice interviews at our Bilingual Professionals Job Fair in October.

Help a diverse group of students practice interviews as part of a classroom workshop or at one of our job fairs, supporting them in pursuing careers in a variety of fields including human services, interpreting, construction, and more. Other tasks include helping review resumes, and practicing elevator pitches.

Human Services Volunteer

Availability: Open

 

 

 

 

 

 

Are you interested in assisting refugees with social services? KOM is looking for college students or adults bilingual in English and Karen to assist KOM staff with walk-in appointments and other program activities.

Human services volunteers assist clients with Ramsey County paperwork, reading mail, making phone calls, and more. Human services volunteers must be available for at least 2 hours each week and commit to a 3-month volunteer period.

K-12 Tutor with New Arrivals

Availability: Open

Help K-12 students who have been in the U.S. for less than five years with homework and practicing English skills. KOM is partnering with four community organizations in the Youth & Family Coach Program to provide tutoring for students who speak a variety of languages, including: Somali, Amharic, Oromo, Pashto, Dari, Karen, Karenni, and Ukrainian. Tutors volunteer at least 1-3 hours/week on weekday afternoons or evenings, either in-person or online. Tutors needed for Summer 2024!

Civic Engagement Volunteer

Build your communications skills while also helping the community be more involved in the electoral process!Ā We need volunteers to help our Civic Engagement Coordinator make phone calls to make sure everyone who is eligible is registered to vote in the 2024 elections.
