Photography & Videography Volunteer

Get involved with KOM as a photography and videography volunteer, and amplify representation of refugees and immigrants in Minnesota. The photography and videography volunteer will provide high quality visual media to help raise awareness about KOM, and foster brand recognition and trust. Photos and/or videos may be used across a variety of platforms, including KOM’s website, social media pages, newsletter, third party platforms, and anywhere else KOM’s brand is shared.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Photograph community events and KOM activities (and take videos when appropriate)
  • Check that all clients and staff being photographed have a signed photo release on file
  • Use KOM’s camera to take photos or use a personal camera/phone and upload the files to a shared drive
  • Follow a recommended shot list, with the opportunity to share shot list suggestions or plan photography projects based on approval by directors
  • Review and edit photos for quality
  • Record video footage that can be used for b-roll (background footage) as needed
  • Record and edit video footage that can be used primarily for social media reels (Instagram and Facebook) or other formats

Time commitment:

The KOM office is open Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm, while some events and programs happen on evenings and weekends. Ongoing volunteer opportunities range from 2-4 hours per week. Location:

Main location is the KOM Office, 2353 Rice Street, Suite 240, Roseville, MN 55113, with events and programs at various locations around the Twin Cities metro area. Some tasks, including photo and video editing, may be done remotely.

Qualifications:

Volunteers must be age 18 or older. Volunteers should have an interest in communications, photography, and/or video editing.

  • Experience with photography and some experience in video making/editing is preferred
  • Basic conversational English is required. Proficiency in any of the following languages is beneficial, but not required: S’gaw Karen, Pwo Karen, Karenni, Burmese, Pashto, Dari, and Spanish
  • Knowledge of the Karen community and other refugee and immigrant communities in Minnesota is beneficial
  • Reliable transportation to travel within the Twin Cities metro area
