To qualify for any CDL program, you must meet all of the following: 

– Be age 18 or older and not currently enrolled in high school

– Be a Minnesota resident

– Have proof of U.S. work authorization

– Identify as immigrant, refugee, or person of color

– Be able to communicate proficiently in English

– Be able to attend all class sessions

– Ready to start a new CDL job in the next 6 months

– Have a valid MN driver’s license and a driving record that will not limit your ability to get a CDL and become employed (You must have had a U.S. driver’s license for at least 2 years. If you already have a CDL Permit, it must be issued from the state of Minnesota.)

– Pass a DOT physical exam and drug test (coordinated and paid for by the program. Note: drug test will screen for THC and though use is legal in MN, use is prohibited for CDL drivers or federally)

For Highway Construction CDL Training, you must also:

– Have high school diploma/GED

KOM’s CDL Careers programs are designed to prepare you for careers that require a commercial driver’s license.

We offer: 

  • General CDL Training:Enrolling now until 1/20/2025! You will complete 8 weeks of permit prep and career preparation at Roseville Adult Learning Center and then complete your behind-the-wheel training at Dakota County Technical College. Completing the program will take about three months, which may not be consecutive. 
  • Highway Construction CDL Training:This program is not taking new applicants at this time. It is offered through a grant from MNDOT.

Who can join? 

You must:

  • Speak and understand English well 
  • Be able to attend all class sessions
  • Ready to start a new CDL job in the next 6 months 
  • Have a valid MN driver’s license and a driving record that will not limit your ability to get a CDL and become employed (You must have had a U.S. driver’s license for at least 2 years. If you already have a CDL Permit, it must be issued from the state of Minnesota.) 
  • Pass a DOT physical exam and drug test (coordinated and paid for by the program. Note: drug test will screen for THC and though use is legal in MN, use is prohibited for CDL drivers or federally) 
  • Note: At this time, MN does not issue non-domiciled CDLs. You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to get a CDL. For updated information, see https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/license-and-id/cdl-cdl  

For Highway Construction CDL Training, you must also: 

  • Have high school diploma/GED
