Keetha joined KOM as the new development associate in March 2017.
Get to know Keetha…
Keetha Vue earned her Bachelor’s of Science from St. Catherine University in December 2016. She majored in social work with a minor in women’s studies. In the past, Keetha interned at Neighborhood House and Little Sisters of the Poor focusing on youth development, families and elder care. The experiences revealed her strong passion for working with the community and development. In the summer of 2015, Keetha was the Women’s Program intern at Breaking Free, advocating to end human trafficking and prostitution in Minnesota where she also participated in filming a news documentary with BBC News. During her time as a student at St. Kate’s she was actively involved with the Asian Women’s Association (AWA) working with Asian American students and exploring identity, women’s rights and education. She served on the AWA board as Programmer and Co-Chair. Keetha has also lived in Japan during the summer of 2016 as an American Counselor teaching English. Keetha was honored to be awarded the 2017 President’s Student Leadership award from St. Kate’s and MN Campus Compact for her civic responsibility and leadership. Keetha started working as the Development Associate for the Karen Organization of Minnesota in March 2017. In her free time she likes to practice photography and explore Minnesota.
Why did you decide you wanted to work at KOM?
“I heard about KOM through my sister who came to one of the Karen Culture Presentations. I recently graduated and when I saw this job positing, I thought that this kind of work is something I care about. I came from a family of refugees and immigrants, and I want to support that kind of work. this work is something that I’m passionate about.”
What have you been doing since you started working at KOM?
“I’ve been meeting with staff members to get a better understanding of KOM’s programs so I can connect them with grants and reports. I also planned the Board Appreciation Dinner.”
What are you most looking forward to with your job at KOM?
“I am looking forward to develop a good relationship with the Karen community and learning the language.”
