Lah Tha Pwee was born in a Thai refugee camp, where she lived for 11 years before moving to the United States in the summer of 2008. She completed her Bachelor of Social Work degree in 2019 at Metropolitan State University and is deeply committed to supporting immigrant and refugee communities.

In December 2019, Lah joined the Karen Organization of Minnesota (KOM) as a Youth and Family Coach, where she advocated for, supported, and mentored newly arrived refugee and immigrant youth. In 2022, she advanced to the role of Youth Programs and Partnerships Manager at KOM. She later chose to leave this position to work more directly with the Karen community, where her passion lies.

Currently, Lah serves as a Karen Culture Broker through M Health Fairview, based at KOM. In this role, she assists Karen community members with navigating mental health and court systems, provides family support, and addresses other specific needs. Lah is also pursuing a Master’s in Social Work, driven by her belief that social workers are vital to her community. This degree will enhance her ability to serve her community and establish her professional credibility.
