Lah Tha Pwee started as a Youth & Family Coach at KOM in December 2019.
Get to know Lah Tha Pwee…
Lah Tha Pwee was born in a Thai refugee camp and lived there for 11 years before moving to the U.S. She came to Minnesota in the summer of 2008 with her two parents. Lah Tha Pwee graduated from Humboldt High School and continued her education at Metropolitan State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work in December of 2019. Before joining KOM as a Youth & Family Coach, Lah Tha Pwee was a social work intern at Humboldt High School working with Karen students. She loves helping people and is looking forward to encouraging youth to further their education and reach their goals. As she put it, “the youth will be the future leaders for our community,” and so she is excited for this opportunity to work closer with them. In the future, Lah Tha Pwee plans to pursue a Master’s Degree of Social Work.
Why did you decide you wanted to work with KOM?
“When I heard about this job at KOM, I thought this is a good position for me because I love to work with young people and help them be successful. I want to encourage them to move forward with their education and to be a support for them.”
What are you most looking forward to with your job with KOM?
“I’m really looking forward to working with our Karen youth and helping them choose colleges and pick a career that’s right for them. I also look forward to supporting them emotionally as they navigate opportunities, decisions, and changes.”
