Brooke Nelson grew up in Volga, South Dakota but has always been drawn to international contexts. She has studied abroad, tutored and taught English language learners across the US, and lived and worked in China as a teacher. She has a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in linguistics and TESL. Prior to her role at KOM, she was an instructor for Northern State University at its campus in Huron, SD, getting to know the local Karen community through her students. It was in this role that she first learned of KOM and became interested in non-profit work.
In her free time, Brooke enjoys learning random facts; entertaining her three pets, Alan, Teddy, and Ukulele; and exploring new bike paths in the Twin Cities.
