SUMMARY:71st Anniversary of Karen Martyr's Day
DESCRIPTION:This year\, Minnesota’s Karen community is planning to commemorate the 71st Anniversary of Karen Martyr’s Day on Saturday\, August 14th and Sunday\, August 15th\, 2021. \nThe event will be held outdoors at Mississippi Creative Arts Magnet School. \n  \nEvent Schedule\nThe main ceremony will be held on Saturday\, August 14th from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. \nFor the remainder of the event\, attendees can visit KCM (Karen Community of Minnesota) food vendors\, participate in games\, visit the resource fair\, and observe sport tournaments. Tournaments include men’s soccer\, men and women’s volleyball\, and men’s cane ball. \n  \nBackground\nKaren Martyr’s Day is officially on August 12 and commemorates the anniversary of the death of Saw Ba U Gyi (the first president of the Karen National Union) in 1950. Others who have fought for the Karen are also honored in remembrance of the Karen resistance.
