SUMMARY:Karenni DeeKu Festival
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the Karenni Community of Minnesota will hold the Karenni DeeKu Festival on September 21st and 22nd\, 2024 in Saint Paul\, Minnesota. \nKarenni Deeku Festival is held in the month of September by Karenni people in the states as well as back in Burma and Thailand refugee camps.  On the 21st\, there will be an evening event at Community School of Excellence where youth will perform a cultural dance. There\, DeeKu will be served\, which is a traditional food\, made of sticky rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. Young rising singers will also showcase their talent. On the 22nd\, there will be sports competitions including volleyball and youth soccer at West Minnehaha Recreation Center\, as well as a small fundraiser to further fund the Karenni Community of Minnesota’s mission. \nThe work of the Karenni Community of Minnesota is dedicated to preserving and maintaining Karenni cultural heritage through cultural events including performing arts\, sports and food. They organize cultural events and youth events to bring together the Karenni community from around the states\, mainly targeting the ones in Minnesota. The Karenni Community of Minnesota is excited to host DeeKu Festival this year to celebrate and commemorate the unity and freedom from oppression as well as their success. \n

DESCRIPTION:The Karenni Community of Minnesota is celebrating Kay Htoe Boe on Saturday\, April 27th\, 2024 in Saint Paul!\n\n\n\nThe most important celebration for Karenni people is Kay Htoe Bo. This festival reflects the story on how the earth came into being.\n\n\nThe Karenni people in Burma live in a small\, mountainous region to the north of Karen State and west of Thailand. There are over a dozen ethnic Karenni subgroups\, but they all speak the same language (with only small variations in dialect).
