Employment Services for Karen and Burmese Refugees
The Karen Organization of Minnesota (“KOM”) is dedicated to finding employment opportunities for the Karen and Burmese refugees. KOM knows that in order for families to be self sufficient, steady employment is a necessity.
KOM assists the Karen and Burmese refugees by providing job training, employment counseling and enrollment in English classes. KOM has Karen employment counselors who work personally with Karen and Burmese clients to:
Provide work-readiness training;
Job application assistance;
Job search assistance;
Connection to prospective employers;
Community support services;
Transportation to and from job interviews;
Vocational training placements;
Job orientations; and
Follow up with KOM clients who have received assistance.
Why Prospective Employers Work with KOM
Refugees from Burma are highly motivated with a strong work ethic;
KOM only refers eligible employees;
KOM works with the employers to create trainings that are designed to prepare the employees and meet company needs;
KOM can assist with translation and cultural trainings; and
KOM is easily accessible and offers support throughout the pre and post placement to ensure a high job retention rate.
