Youth Development Coordinator (Karen/English)
Position Title: Youth Development Coordinator (Karen/English) Reports to: Program Manager Status: Full time with benefits Salary: $14.00-$15.00/hr. depending on qualifications Scheduling: Monday-Friday 7:30-5:00 (40 hrs/wk based on school schedules) Posting Close Date: March 12, 2017 / open until filled
The Youth Development Coordinator will work collaboratively with teaching staff and administrators to help newly arrived refugee youth in grades 6-12 integrate into the American school system. The Youth Development Coordinator will provide support in ELL classrooms to increase academic performance. The Youth Development Coordinator will also lead after-school and summer activities focused on American cultural transitions, volunteer and leadership skills, stress, and health.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Complete intake, assessment, and service plans with students in their native language.
Enter student data into database, maintain accurate case files, and complete detailed case notes in a timely manner
Provide cultural & language support to assist studentsí integration into schools
Support students with English reading, writing, and math in the classroom, and provide cultural & language support for ESL teachers as needed
Lead after school activities in leadership skills, Karen culture, health, stress management, and college & career preparation
Provide ongoing communication between school staff and parents to promote parents' involvement in school activities and address individual student concerns
Identify social/emotional health needs and refer to appropriate resources
Support volunteers & students in KOMís Youth Mentorship program
Support overall KOM organizational goals, including assisting with walk-in clients
High school diploma or GED from an American or International education institution or equivalent youth development coordination work experience
Able to speak, read and write fluently in English and either Karen (Po or Sgaw), Karenni, Burmese or Thai
Valid MN Driverís License with proof of insurance and good driving record required. Must be able and willing to use personal vehicle to transport clients.
Able to work independently with refugee clients (youth and adults) as well as school staff and community services
Able to complete intake and assessment forms, keep complete case notes and maintain accurate case files.
